HSE Officer

Søstrene Grene is a Danish family-owned company founded in 1973 with over 370 stores across 17 countries and an ambition to reach 500 by 2027, we are amid an exciting growth journey.
We offer a wide range of home accessories, furniture, kitchenware, hobby items, toys and seasonal products. New items arrive in our stores every week. Søstrene Grene aims to inspire people and offer a moment of calm in everyday life. Our culture is rooted in values such as respect, trust and honesty.

Our distribution center has recently opened and operates with a combination of manual processes, semi-automation, and a clear ambition toward high automation.

From day one, you will play a key role in ensuring that health and safety are structurally embedded across all operations. The HSE function in Venlo is currently in the early stages of development, giving you the opportunity to shape its structure, define its foundations, and successfully integrate it into daily operations, embedding HSE as a core part of the organization.

You will build a strong HSE foundation that grows alongside the distribution center and supports our ambition toward high automation.

Your role at Søstrene Grene
You will act as the primary point of contact for all HSE-related topics and be responsible for developing policies, procedures and standards that are practical and aligned with operational needs.

  • Risk Inventory & Evaluation (RI&E) and Action Plan: update, prioritize, assign actions and ensure follow-up.
  • Carry out prevention tasks (Prevention Officer / Preventiemedewerker).
  • Emergency Response (BHV) organization: keep the BHV plan up to date and lead and ensure the BHV organization is effectively embedded.
  • MoC (Management of Change): ensure it is applied to changes in layout, processes, installations and automation.
  • Visible on the floor: safety walks, internal traffic and dock safety, racking/vehicle impact risks, contractor safety and permits to work where required.
  • Training: deliver toolbox talks and basic safety instructions so that safe working becomes the standard, not something “extra”.
  • Incident management: address incidents structurally (reporting, investigation—root cause, actions) and translate data into improvement actions.

A workplace with heart and professionalism
You will primarily work with the local management team, team leads, People & Culture (HR), facility, BHV team members and external partners. We are a team that combines professionalism with genuine passion for our work and the company we are building together.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field
  • Professional certification such as MVK, IVK, NEBOSH, or equivalent is preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in an independent HSE role in an operational environment (DC/logistics/retail/industry).
  • Proven experience with RI&E/Action Plan, MoC, BHV and incident investigation.
  • Familiarity with safety management systems and regulatory compliance
  • Experience supporting internal or external HSE audits
  • You are pragmatic, stand firm and bring people along without bureaucracy. You create buy-in in the operation.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written) is essential; all communication is in English.
  • Experience with machine safety and warehouse automation is a plus.

The Søstrene Grene spirit

At Søstrene Grene, we strive to touch people's hearts by creating a wondrous universe that offers a break from everyday life. Our 'Søsterånd' (Sister Spirit), together with our values, defines our culture. You will find that we value values such as respect, trust and honesty and that we treat everyone in accordance with these values. We work as a team and you can always count on a helping hand from your new Sisters (and yes, we all call ourselves Sisters, regardless of gender).
